Yummy Cheerios!

Ava had her first Cheerios yesterday and loved them! She did a great job picking them up and getting them to her mouth (so far she picks up everything with her right hand). She really loves food!

Life Lately

Our life this month has been pretty low key. We've settled back into the routine of school and the addition of swimming lessons. January is usually a really slow month for me. Christmas is definitely my favorite time of the year and when it's over January feels kind of boring. So far this January is flying by and I'm enjoying catching up on things, organizing the house and spending time with the kids at home. Most of the month we've spent under the weather but so far this week it looks like everyone is back to their normal selves.

Lots of time spent playing in the bath. Ava loves it and kicks and splashes like crazy.

Finally taking naps again :) Not everyday, but several times a week. I love how he sleeps :)

Singing around the house and running around playing chase with the flashlight. He says that he's looking for ghosts. I think he got it from Halloween time. I don't like it and I'm hoping the phase will pass soon. It's good to know that other boys his age are also playing the same game.

Ava having fun with her Daddy. They've been having lots of tea parties :) Her tea set is probably one of her favorite toys.

Ava's been trying out new foods too. I sliced up some bananas the other day to see if she could start on finger foods. After trying for a long time she was able to pick up the bananas and even got one in her mouth but most of the time they slipped out of her fingers. When she did get it in her mouth, she didn't seem to like it much. Maybe she'll be like her momma and not like bananas.

And this is my sweetie after a nap...check out that hair! It is a total mess, but she is just too adorable :)

Sick

This has been the week of sickness at our house. Nathan was sick with a cough all of last week and Ava had a bit of a cough too. But this week was horrible. Poor Andrew came down with a terrible flu/cold on late Tuesday night despite the fact that he got a flu shot this year (his 1st one ever). He woke up crying at 11pm, we went into his room and he had a really bad cough. The more he cried, the worse it got. I couldn't get him calmed down. It sounded like croup, so we got the humidifier and thought it would be gone within a few days. That night was rough as well as the next several days & nights. The next day he slept till 10:15 which is unheard of for him. He had a fever but it seemed to go away with Tylenol. We spent the day watching a lot of cartoons, playing video games, reading books and doing puzzles. He even took a long nap which surprised me since he slept in so late. That night we paid for it! He didn't sleep much and woke me up every 1 to 2 hours. It was horrible! The next day he still had a fever so we did a lot of relaxing again. Friday was by far the worst day. He had a fever all day and no medicine made it go down. He couldn't get comfortable because his body was so achey. We called the doctor several times but they said we were doing everything that could be done. I felt so bad for him. Saturday morning- no fever! We spent the day at home again but he had lots more energy and actually started playing with toys. He didn't take any meds and seems to be doing better today too, accept for the cough which sounds horrible. The doctor said that the cough could last up to 3 weeks. Ava now seems to be getting worse though. Her cough has gotten worse and now has a runny nose. She was running a slight fever last night (99.3) but I'm hoping she'll nap a lot today and feel better tomorrow! I am really hoping that I don't get sick too and that this sickness will finally leave our house!

The kids

This is the kids normal interaction together. Andrew tries to entertain Ava, she thinks he is the funniest thing in the world, he gets in her face too much, she gets annoyed and whines. The refereeing has now begun and I'm sure it will only continue as they get older. These 2 do crack me up though and I love how much they love each other!

Friday Family Night

Last friday we decided to do something a little different than our normal friday nights of going to dinner. My friend told me that the Children's Museum is free every first Friday of the month from 4-8pm. Since we no longer have a membership, I thought it would be fun to take advantage of it being free and was hoping that it wouldn't be too crowded. We ate an early dinner and got there are 6:30. The parking lot was pretty empty, but once we got inside it was very crowded. Nate just looked at me like, "this is not a good idea." He hates crowds and can't handle lots of kids. I told him to relax and enjoy the time as a family. Andrew had tons of fun, Ava really didn't care much at this age and Nate & I loved seeing Andrew happy. But we did decide that we will never go on a free night again. It was too crowded and there were tons of parents there that let their kids do anything and everything. We were gone within an hour and grabbed cookies on the way home. Nate said he needed them after the craziness we just experienced and I totally agreed. I never turn down dessert :)

Swimming

1.5.2011-Andrew 3years

Last week Andrew had his 1st swimming lesson by himself. All of his swimming lessons in the past were parent/child but he is now big enough to go to swimming without me! He was very nervous at first and kept asking if I was going to go in with him. He wasn't happy to find out that I wasn't, but I told him that Ava & I would be watching him. Once he got in the pool, he did great! There were 2 other girls (older girls) in his class with him and he loved playing games and did a great job listening to his teacher. He was very excited to see Daddy stop by for a few minutes and Daddy was very impressed with how well Andrew was doing.

New Years Eve

Wow this year has gone fast. Last year at this time we were a family of 3 and now we are a family of 4! We've had an amazing year and look forward to another great year.

Tonight we got the kids dressed up and went to dinner at Oswego Grill. Andrew is constantly asking us if we can go to dinner at "oswego gill" since we hadn't been in awhile. So we thought we'd go and order something different than usual. It was a nice evening out and the kids did great. We spent a relaxing day at home and now that the kids are in bed asleep Nate & I plan to watch a little t.v. and hang out until 12:01am when we'll probably head to bed :)
